Job summary

Summer-Browning Associates supports a Central Government client in locating a Senior Developer (G7) with strong Python and Django expertise for a 6-month contract in London, Bristol or Manchester. The role requires hands-on experience with Docker, Git/GitHub, AWS container deployments, and building CI/CD tooling.

The successful candidate will lead work in an Agile environment, mentor junior developers, and ensure security-by-design practices while deploying scalable data-centric applications.

Qualifications

• Strong Python development experience with Django or similar web frameworks.
• Hands-on experience with Docker, Git, GitHub and CI/CD tooling.
• Experience deploying containerised applications on AWS.
• Ability to build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and IaC using Python CDK or similar.
• Experience integrating data from multiple sources and handling logs/observability.
• Proficiency with Linux/UNIX, shell scripting and security-by-design practices.
• Proven track record in an Agile environment and mentoring junior developers.

Job description

SBA are currently supporting our Central Government client who are seeking a Senior Developer (G7)| (Python & Django) on an initial 6 month contract.

Location: London, Bristol OR Manchester (hybrid office attendance)

You will have:

• A high level of expertise in Python and Python web frameworks, ideally Django.
• Strong working knowledge of modern development tools, including Docker, git and GitHub
• A good working knowledge of Amazon Web Services, in particular deploying containerised applications
• An ability to build and maintain CI/CD tooling, ideally using GitHub Actions and AWS CodeBuild/CodePipeline
• Strong expertise building applications which integrate, transform and organise data from a range of sources
• The ability to investigate problems with running applications, including interrogating AWS logs, responding to errors raised in Sentry (or similar tools) and applying fixes
• Experience of deploying applications and infrastructure using either the Python CDK or other infrastructure as code tools
• A good working knowledge of Linux/UNIX, including system administration and shell scripting
• The ability to secure applications and cloud environments in line with industry best practice
• Leading work within an Agile environment, including leading and supporting more junior developers
• Good working knowledge of cybersecurity topics, specifically secure-by-design software development

NB: Active or lapsed SC that can be transferred is required for the assignment. Successful applicant can start on BPSS while the SC transfer is underway
