Job summary

Murphy is seeking a Design Manager to lead a diverse portfolio of water infrastructure schemes in partnership with Thames Water, as part of the AMP8 programme. You will oversee design quality, programme, change management, and lead multiple teams across large projects.

The role requires a strong civil engineering background in water sector, BIM/CDE proficiency, and experience managing people. Murphy offers extensive benefits and career development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Degree in engineering; Chartered status desirable.
• Experience in civil engineering, water sector with heavy civils/MEICA.
• Digitally competent with BIM, CDEs and document management systems.
• Experience managing people/teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead on tender stage requirements and allocate resources.
• Produce design briefs for permanent works.
• Review and provide oversight of submissions for quality and scope.
• Implement design management assurance framework for quality, programme, change, risk.
• Lead design matters on projects and maintain RACI.
• Manage design managers/co-ordinators and staff appraisals.
• Coordinate with site team on constructability and temporary works.
• Keep CDE system up to date and issue drawings to sites.
• Monitor design progress for programme, cost, and metrics.
• Monitor performance of Design Consultants and escalate as needed.
• Ensure compliance with standards and client requirements.
• Understand contracts for Design Consultants including fees and schedules.
