Job summary

RGB Recruitment Ltd in Exeter is partnering with a well-established main contractor to appoint an experienced Design Manager. You will lead the design process from bid stage through to delivery, coordinating a multi-disciplinary team and ensuring designs are practical, compliant and aligned with programme.

The role requires strong technical knowledge across architecture, structure and M&E, excellent communication and negotiation skills, and a proactive approach to risk and value engineering.

Qualifications

• Construction-related degree (HNC/HND or degree) is preferred.
• Strong technical knowledge of architecture, structure and M&E.
• Excellent communication, coordination and negotiation skills.
• Proactive approach to identifying risks and driving projects forward.
• Experience with MS Office; familiarity with MS Project, Asta, Primavera or Bluebeam is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Lead design process from bid/pre-construction through to delivery, ensuring on-program design outcomes.
• Establish and lead design teams across architects, engineers, consultants and supply chain.
• Coordinate external design consultants for quality and compliance with the brief.
• Lead design reviews to monitor progress, risks, and design issues; drive value and buildability.
• Ensure designs comply with legislation, regs, planning and fire standards.
• Coordinate design activities with project teams and statutory bodies to hit critical dates.
• Manage design development within cost parameters and select materials and methods.
• Oversee design change control and support overall design strategy; mentor team members.
