Marine Resources Limited is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Wimborne-based team. You will own complex engineering projects, lead new product development, and provide technical guidance across the business.

You will oversee from concept through production, ensuring designs are manufacturable, cost-effective and meet high quality standards. The role involves leading design reviews, mentoring engineers, and applying DFМ principles in a fast-paced marine manufacturing

Formación

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in a mechanical design role within manufacturing.
• Strong experience with SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software.
• Proven track record delivering products from concept to manufacture.
• Experience applying FMEA, root cause analysis and continuous improvement.

Responsabilidades

• Lead the development of new products and engineering solutions from concept through to production release.
• Create and review detailed 3D models, manufacturing drawings, and related documentation.
• Oversee design activities to ensure on-time, within-budget delivery to specification.
• Mentor and supervise Design Engineers and Technicians.
• Drive Design for Manufacture to improve efficiency, quality and production performance.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, procurement, and commercial teams throughout the lifecycle.
• Manage engineering data, bills of materials, and information in ERP/CAD systems.
• Lead design reviews, prototype testing, and validation activities.
• Implement continuous improvement initiatives using structured problem-solving.
• Provide technical support to production teams, customers, and stakeholders.
• Develop and implement engineering processes and quality procedures.
• Act as senior technical lead in absence of Engineering Manager.

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Are you currently in a Mechanical Design or Senior Mechanical Design role in the Marine industry and would be interested in a new role?

My client is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing engineering team in Wimborne, Dorset. This is an excellent opportunity for a talented engineer with a strong manufacturing background to take ownership of complex engineering projects, lead new product development activities, and provide technical guidance across the wider business.

Working closely with the Engineering Manager and cross-functional teams, you will oversee projects from initial concept through to production, ensuring designs are practical, cost-effective, manufacturable, and delivered to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development of new products and engineering solutions from concept through to production release.
• Create and review detailed 3D models, manufacturing drawings, and associated technical documentation.
• Oversee design activities to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to specification.
• Support and mentor Design Engineers and Technicians, promoting engineering best practice across the team.
• Drive Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles to improve efficiency, quality, and production performance.
• Collaborate closely with manufacturing, quality, procurement, and commercial teams throughout the product lifecycle.
• Manage engineering data, bills of materials, and technical information within ERP and CAD systems.
• Lead design reviews, prototype evaluations, testing programmes, and validation activities.
• Investigate and implement continuous improvement initiatives using structured problem‑solving methodologies.
• Provide technical support to production teams, customers, and external stakeholders when required.
• Assist in the development and implementation of engineering processes, standards, and quality procedures.
• Act as a senior technical point of contact and provide leadership support in the absence of the Engineering Manager.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

• A degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years' experience in a mechanical design position within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong experience using SolidWorks 3D CAD software, or similar such as Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD.
• Proven experience delivering products from concept design through to manufacture.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes including fabricated metalwork, composites, or engineered assemblies.
• Experience applying FMEA, root cause analysis, continuous improvement, and quality-focused engineering techniques.
• Strong project management and problem-solving capabilities.
• Previous experience supervising, mentoring, or leading engineering personnel.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively across multiple departments.
