Job summary

Reed is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer in Wiltshire to design mechanical components, assemblies and full machine systems from concept to manufacture. You will create 3D models, make detailed drawings and manage BOMs within a collaborative engineering environment.

You’ll work with production teams, ensuring designs are practical and ready for manufacture, while contributing to continuous improvement and documentation.

Qualifications

• Experience as Mechanical Design Engineer or similar role (CAD)
• Strong 3D CAD experience, ideally Autodesk Inventor
• Experience producing manufacturing drawings and BOMs
• Good understanding of fabrication, sheet metal and general manufacturing processes
• Comfortable working with production and engineering teams
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

• Produce 3D models and detailed manufacturing drawings using CAD software.
• Design mechanical components, assemblies and fabricated structures.
• Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Support projects from concept through to manufacture and installation.
• Work closely with production and manufacturing teams to resolve technical challenges.

Mechanical Design Engineer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a well–established manufacturer of bespoke industrial machinery and engineered systems.

This position offers the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects, designing mechanical components, fabricated assemblies and complete machine systems from concept through to manufacture. You'll work closely with production, fabrication and assembly teams, ensuring designs are practical, efficient and fit for manufacture.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce 3D models and detailed manufacturing drawings using CAD software.
• Design mechanical components, assemblies and fabricated structures.
• Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Support projects from concept through to manufacture and installation.
• Work closely with production and manufacturing teams to resolve technical challenges.

About You

• Previous experience in a Mechanical Design Engineer, Design Engineer, CAD Engineer or Design Draughtsperson position.
• Strong 3D CAD experience, ideally Autodesk Inventor.
• Experience producing manufacturing drawings and BOMs.
• Good understanding of fabrication, sheet metal and general manufacturing processes.
• Comfortable working closely with production and engineering teams.
• Strong communication and problem–solving skills.

Desirable

• Autodesk Inventor experience.
• Experience with machinery, material handling equipment, industrial equipment or special–purpose machinery.
• Knowledge of engineering change control and PDM systems.
• Design for Manufacture (DFM) experience.
