Job Description:

Area Lead - Value Engineering

Six roles are available across the three job titles listed below, with specific details provided for the Senior Design role.

The Area Lead will oversee the Senior Design and Design Engineer roles, positioned above and below respectively.

Job role overview:

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering enhanced value across various components and processes across all model platforms. Key techniques include design optimization, resourcing, and supplier negotiations.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate with colleagues across the business to identify and implement Value Engineering initiatives within Powertrain, Chassis, and Electrical components. It may involve travel to international suppliers, requiring strong technical judgment and collaborative problem-solving skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engineering solutions to support continuous improvement in the value of current production and development motorcycles, consulting with Specialists and Chief Engineers as needed.
  • Ensure projects meet specified time, cost, quality, and technical requirements, maintaining high customer satisfaction.
  • Work as part of cross-functional teams to identify opportunities and develop engineering solutions.
  • Engage with international suppliers to develop and agree on component specifications.
  • Maintain a highly technical focus, emphasizing detail and delivery.
  • Communicate and collaborate across the supply and value chain to maximize team effectiveness.
  • Create and maintain detailed project plans to meet deliverables.
  • Achieve Key Performance Indicators related to cost, time, quality, and specifications.
  • Follow and challenge existing processes to minimize project and product risks, and improve department effectiveness.
  • Proactively identify risks and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Support and mentor less experienced team members, promoting best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Maths and English GCSE grade C or above.
  • MEng or BEng in an Engineering-related subject.

Experience:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Highly technical approach with excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong technical judgment and collaborative skills to maximize value from experienced staff.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate urgency in project delivery.
  • Forward-thinking with a focus on risk mitigation and robust solutions.
  • Previous experience in automotive/manufacturing environments.
  • Experience in a value engineering-related role.
