PureGym is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to lead spatial analytics, working between home and our London office. You will develop and productionise spatial models that inform where to grow, how gyms fit into communities, and what drives location performance.

The role emphasizes robust, explainable models, collaboration with Property, Finance and Engineering, and delivering commercially relevant recommendations to senior stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Degree in quantitative or geospatial discipline is required.
• Several years of applied Data Science experience, with geospatial focus.
• Strong geospatial modelling expertise (spatial statistics, isochrones, gravity/Huff models).
• Proven experience taking models from prototype to production and monitoring them.
• Strong Python and SQL skills with maintainable, version-controlled code.
• Experience with Python geospatial ecosystem and PySpark on Databricks.

Responsibilities

• Own spatial and location models from prototype to production assets.
• Develop catchment, location and demand models for markets and growth.
• Partner with Property and Finance to translate questions into analytics with business value.
• Rigorously validate models with out-of-time testing and uncertainty analysis.
• Create approaches for locations with limited historical data.
• Turn model outputs into reusable, scalable data assets.
• Collaborate with MLOps to deploy, monitor and retrain models using MLflow.
• Translate complex outputs into clear, commercially relevant recommendations for stakeholders.
• Evaluate external models with technical rigour and fair comparison.
• Contribute to shared development standards and knowledge sharing.
• Shape the future of spatial analytics at PureGym.
