As part of the OMNIA® Training consortium, the Army's Strategic Training Partner, you will play a pivotal role in one of the UK's most ambitious defence transformation programmes. Working at the heart of the Insights, Guidance and Control (IGC) Cell, you will turn complex training, safety and operational challenges into data-driven insights that influence senior decision-making, improve training effectiveness and help ensure the Army is ready to fight and win. This is a rare opportunity to apply advanced data science in a mission-critical environment where your work will have real-world impact.

Key Details
  • Permanent role - 37.5 hours a week
  • Hybrid role with 2 or 3 days a week in Warminster
  • Due to the nature of this role, you must be eligible for UK Security Clearance at BPSS level
What you’ll be doing
  • Turn complex training, safety and operational challenges into clear data science solutions that support decision-making.
  • Gather, prepare and analyse data from multiple sources, ensuring quality, accuracy and reliability.
  • Apply advanced analytical techniques, statistical modelling and machine learning to identify trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Develop, test and improve predictive models, analytical tools and data products that deliver meaningful insights.
  • Write maintainable code and analytical scripts using tools such as Python, R and SQL, following best practice standards.
  • Create compelling reports, dashboards and visualisations, clearly communicating findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborate with data engineers, digital teams, military personnel and subject-matter experts to deliver scalable solutions.
  • Act as a senior data science specialist, mentoring colleagues, championing data-driven decision making and ensuring robust governance, ethics and security standards are maintained.
What we’re looking for
Essential Skills/Experience/Qualifications
  • An appropriate qualification in data science, statistics, mathematics, operational research, computer science or another quantitatively focused discipline, and/or equivalent practical experience delivering data science solutions.

  • Proficiency in at least one data science programming language, such as Python or R, and strong working knowledge of SQL.
  • Ability to write, test, review and document moderate-to-complex analytical code.
  • Applied experience of the data science lifecycle: problem framing, data preparation, exploratory analysis, feature development, modelling, validation, communication and transition into use.
  • Good understanding of a range of techniques, including statistical modelling and machine learning.
  • Experience in at least two relevant areas, such as forecasting, anomaly detection, optimisation, simulation, natural language processing or causal inference and experimental analysis.

  • Knowledge and experience of collective training
  • Knowledge of the military/Army
  • About ACTS (Army Collective Training Service)

The OMNIA® Training consortium brings together five leading UK defence training organisations: Capita, Raytheon, Rheinmetall, Cervus and Skyral. Working with the Land Warfare Centre (LWC), OMNIA will schedule, plan, design, deliver and assure collective training across the Army’s Collective Training System (ACTS), while also delivering the Collective Training Transformation Programme (CTTP). This generational opportunity will enable more relevant, challenging and safe training, helping the British Army to fight and win. Central to this mission is the ability to set and measure training performance against requirements, assure operational readiness, and capture associated training and safety risks.
