Job summary

Sovos is hiring a Senior Data Engineer to own the Snowflake-based data pipeline—from ingestion to close-ready outputs—for FP&A, accounting, and leadership. You’ll design dbt models, ensure data quality, and work closely with finance stakeholders to map data to business needs.

The role emphasizes production pipelines, on-call reliability, and governance across Billing, ARR, Rev Rec, and related areas. Strong SQL, dbt, and cloud experience are essential for success.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years of data engineering experience building and maintaining production pipelines and dbt projects at scale.
• Advanced SQL skills including CTEs, window functions, and complex financial queries.
• Production dbt experience with modular models, tests, documentation, and semantic metadata.
• Snowflake proficiency including roles, warehouses, governance, masking policies, and row-level security.
• Experience supporting financial close cycles and being on-call for pipeline failures.
• Fluency with the revenue data chain (Billing, ARR, Deferred Revenue, Revenue Recognition, Close Pack) and ability to engage finance stakeholders.
• Strong communication skills to explain trade-offs and document outputs for finance analysts.
• Preferred: experience integrating CRM/ERP systems (NetSuite, Salesforce) into a warehouse layer; Python scripting; cloud (Azure/AWS); MLOps or ML pipelines; domain knowledge in tax/compliance.

Responsibilities

• Design and build Snowflake schema and dbt model architecture for top-line data (Billing, ARR, Rev Rec, Close Pack).
• Deliver ingestion and transformation models with tests and documentation across use cases.
• Own pipeline reliability through financial close; monitor, alert, and act as on-call escalation.
• Establish data quality standards, dbt testing conventions, and Snowflake governance patterns.
• Collaborate with Analytics Engineer on business-layer model design to align with finance needs.
• Extend dbt models to cover OPEX, COGS, and related costs; ensure AI-ready outputs.
• Write dbt YAML documentation with table descriptions and grain statements as production deliverables.
• Maintain row-level security and model freshness SLAs for real-time AI queries.
