Job summary

Sovos is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to own the Snowflake/dbt data pipeline stack supporting FP&A, accounting, and leadership decisions. You will design, build, test, and document data models from ingestion to close outputs, with a strong focus on data quality and governance.

You will collaborate with finance stakeholders, extend models to cover OPEX/COGS, and ensure row-level security and real-time AI data freshness. A remote-friendly, globally connected environment awaits.

Qualifications

• 5-8 years of experience in data engineering and production pipelines.
• Advanced SQL skills: CTEs, window functions, LATERAL joins, performance tuning, and complex multi-source financial queries.
• Production dbt experience: modular models, tests, documentation, and semantic metadata for both AI and BI consumers.
• Snowflake proficiency: roles, warehouses, governance, masking policies, and row-level security -- owning the environment.
• Experience supporting financial close cycles, including on-call ownership of pipeline failures.
• Fluency in the revenue data chain (Billing, ARR, Deferred Revenue, Revenue Recognition, Close Pack).
• Strong communication skills and ability to document outputs for finance analysts.
• Preferred: CRM/ERP integrations (NetSuite, Salesforce) with ELT patterns and incremental loads.
• Preferred: Python for scripting and orchestration.
• Preferred: Cloud infra (Azure or AWS) and CI/CD fundamentals.
• Preferred: MCP or similar frameworks for connecting AI to structured data.
• Preferred: B2B SaaS metrics (ARR, GRR, NRR, churn, deferred revenue).
• Preferred: Data governance basics (PII, access control, GDPR).
• Nice to Have: RAG, or prompt engineering; MLOps; domain knowledge in compliance/tax tech.

Responsibilities

• Design and build the Snowflake schema and dbt model architecture for the topline data chain: Billing, ARR, Deferred Revenue, Revenue Recognition, and Close Pack
• Deliver ingestion and transformation models with full test coverage and documentation across all assigned use cases
• Own pipeline reliability through financial close -- monitor, alert on, and recover from failures; primary on-call escalation point
• Establish data quality standards, dbt testing conventions, and Snowflake governance patterns for the broader team
• Partner with the Analytics Engineer on business-layer model design to ensure outputs map to finance requirements
• Extend the dbt model layer to cover OPEX, COGS, commissions, and ASC 340-40 capitalized software
• Write dbt YAML documentation – descriptions, definitions, and grains – as production deliverables
• Own row-level security and model freshness SLAs for real-time AI queries
