Smart Working is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to take ownership of an in-house data warehouse and lead data pipelines for ERP data integration. The role emphasizes reliability, quality, and collaboration with the Data Analyst and business owners across the company.

The position is permanent, full-time, remote-first with UK-friendly hours, and involves working with global teams and reporting requirements. Strong SQL, BigQuery and dbt skills are essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of data engineering experience for the global Senior route.
• Advanced SQL skills including joins, CTEs, window functions and debugging complex queries.
• 3+ years of Google BigQuery experience with production workloads.
• 3+ years of production dbt experience including staging layers, logic models and tests.
• 1+ year of Git/GitHub experience with clear commits and branching.
• 1+ year of data warehouse concepts including ELT and dimensional modelling.
• Experience with data pipelines and managed connectors for ERP data into BigQuery.
• Experience with data quality testing and safe deployment (dbt tests, Great Expectations, CI checks).
• Full overlap with UK business hours including GMT/BST changes.

Responsabilités

• Take over the existing data warehouse and run it in-house during handover.
• Maintain and improve data pipelines moving ERP data into the warehouse.
• Design and extend data models across staging, logic, marts and reporting tables.
• Read the existing codebase before building new models.
• Implement and monitor data quality tests; deploy only when tests pass.
• Use version control with clear commits and branching.
• Answer business questions using data and explain findings clearly to non-technical colleagues.
• Co-own technical documentation and report library; support cross-cover with Data Analyst.
• Collaborate with Data Analyst and data owners across the business.
• Manage own workload and own outcomes.
• Maintain a detail-oriented approach to data accuracy, testing and documentation.
• Adhere to test-before-deploy practices and guardrails; frame business questions beyond tickets.
• Learn quickly during handover while focusing on pipeline reliability and business adoption of reports.
