Job summary

Preply is hiring a Senior Data Engineer for the Data Ingestion and Enrichment team. You will design and own the data layer powering analytics, ML, and product, working with ML Platform, Analytics, and Product squads to ensure production-ready pipelines.

You will build ingestion foundations, manage batch and streaming pipelines, enforce data contracts, and drive data quality and governance across domains, enabling scalable, observable data assets.

Qualifications

• Experience building architectural patterns for large-scale apps and data pipelines.
• Leading multi-stakeholder deliveries in platform or data engineering teams.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP or equivalent).
• Hands-on real-time and batch data processing with modern frameworks (Spark, Flink, Kafka).
• Experience with orchestration tools like Airflow or dbt.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own the data lake with clear ownership and quality expectations.
• Develop and operate scalable batch and streaming ingestion pipelines.
• Define data contracts and implement validation, quality checks, and lineage.
• Build enrichment logic to contextualise data across domains and support versioning.
• Instrument pipelines with observability: freshness, latency, cost, data quality.
• Ensure governance: access control, privacy protections, auditable data flows.
• Create self-service templates and libraries to onboard new data sources within guardrails.
• Collaborate with Product, Backend, Analytics, and ML teams on ingestion requirements.
