Job summary

Qualifications

• Minimum five years' experience in UK customs brokerage, agency or freight forwarding.
• Solid knowledge of UK customs procedures and HMRC requirements.
• Proven use of CDS for customs entries and declarations.
• Experience handling import and export declarations and related filings.
• Familiarity with NCTS Transit procedures, IPAFFS, ENS and ELO declarations.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy and proactive problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and process UK import/export declarations via CDS.
• Manage NCTS Transit movements and associated documents.
• Complete IPAFFS notifications, ENS and ELO declarations.
• Ensure full HMRC regulation and customs compliance.
• Liaise with customers, forwarders, transport providers and authorities.
• Resolve customs queries and clearance issues promptly.

Senior Customs Clerk

Dover, Kent | Full-Time Days - Office Based | Permanent | Up to £39,000 per annum Bonuses

1 weekend per month worked (can be worked from home)

Westin Par is recruiting for an experienced Senior Customs Clerk to join a well-established customs and logistics organisation based in Dover.

This is an excellent opportunity for a customs professional with strong UK import and export experience to take on a senior role within a busy customs operation.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the smooth movement of goods, maintaining compliance with UK customs regulations, and supporting customers across a broad range of customs requirements.

Working within an experienced team, you will be involved in all aspects of customs clearance and border processes, supporting international trade movements and delivering a high standard of service in a fast-paced environment.

The Role

As a Senior Customs Clerk, you will be responsible for managing a variety of customs formalities and ensuring declarations are processed accurately and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Preparing and processing UK import and export customs declarations via the Customs Declaration Service (CDS)
• Managing NCTS Transit movements and associated documentation
• Completing IPAFFS notifications, ENS and ELO declarations
• Ensuring full compliance with HMRC regulations and customs legislation
• Liaising with customers, freight forwarders, transport providers and government authorities
• Resolving customs-related queries and clearance issues promptly
• Supporting the smooth and timely movement of goods through UK borders
• Working closely with colleagues to maintain high levels of operational performance and customer service

About You

To be considered for this position, you will have:

• A minimum of five years' experience within a UK customs brokerage, customs agency or freight forwarding environment
• Strong working knowledge of UK customs procedures and HMRC requirements
• Proven experience using CDS for customs entries
• Experience handling import and export declarations
• Knowledge of NCTS Transit procedures, IPAFFS, ENS and ELO declarations
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
• Confidence communicating with customers and stakeholders at all levels
• The ability to work effectively under pressure within a busy operational environment
• A proactive and team-focused approach
