Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to join The Dorcan Academy as our Senior Cover Supervisor, leading and coordinating the day-to-day delivery of centralised cover while supporting high-quality learning across the academy. The successful candidate will line-manage a team of cover supervisors, work closely with curriculum leaders and pastoral teams and play a key role in ensuring students experience consistency, structure and positive relationships throughout the school day. Beyond lesson cover, the role offers the opportunity to contribute more widely to academy life through mentoring, pastoral support and working with students across a range of settings. This position would suit a confident, organised and adaptable individual who believes in high expectations, strong relationships and creating an environment where every student is able to thrive and succeed.

Would you like to join a school on an ambitious journey to become a sector-leading school at the heart of our community? Do you believe every child deserves excellence, belonging and opportunity? Do you want work in a school where people are valued, trusted and empowered to thrive? We are not standing still as a school.

At The Dorcan Academy, we are building something special. The vision you will be joining is simple but ambitious: to be a sector-leading school that champions every student through Excellence in Education, Meaningful Enrichment, Uncompromising Equity and a Culture Grounded in a Strong Ethos. Everything we do is shaped by these four commitments.

We believe schools change lives through relationships, high expectations and genuine care. We are determined that every student at The Dorcan Academy feels known, supported and inspired to succeed.

Why Join The Dorcan Academy?

This is an exciting time to join our school. We are a proud and improving 11-16 academy on the eastern edge of Swindon with a strong sense of community, a comprehensive and enriching curriculum and a deeply committed staff team.

Over recent years, we have improved significantly and were judged GOOD in all categories by Ofsted. Visitors frequently comment on the warm, supportive culture across the academy and the positive relationships between staff and students.

At The Dorcan Academy, we want staff to thrive as well as students. We are creating a culture where staff wellbeing genuinely matters, workload is considered carefully and deliberately, collaboration is valued, professional voice is welcomed and leadership is visible, supportive and approachable. We want every colleague to feel a genuine sense of belonging and purpose.

We recognise that education is demanding work. That is why we are committed to protecting staff time and ensuring colleagues feel supported and empowered to do their best work.

Our ethos is underpinned by the five principles of Belonging, Purpose, Aspiration, Perseverance and Achievement. Alongside this, we seek to develop the character virtues of Honesty, Integrity, Compassion, Courage, Generosity, Gratitude, Personal Responsibility, Resilience and Self-Discipline.

We are determined to create an inclusive school where everyone is valued, cared for and nurtured in an extraordinary way.

Our Approach

At The Dorcan Academy, we believe every student is able to thrive and achieve. We believe strong relationships transform lives, consistency and kindness matter, inclusion must be meaningful and equitable and enrichment should open doors and raise aspirations. We also believe staff are strongest when they feel supported and trusted.

We are proud of our students and our community. We work hard to build positive partnerships with families and to ensure every young person has access to the opportunities, experiences and support they need to thrive.

What We Offer Staff

We offer a supportive and bespoke induction programme, high-quality professional development and coaching, opportunities for career progression and leadership development and a collaborative and values-driven culture. Staff benefit from visible and supportive leadership, strong pastoral support systems, motivated and enthusiastic students and colleagues who care deeply about young people.

We are also committed to staff wellbeing and professional trust, while providing opportunities for colleagues to contribute to the future direction of the academy. "We believe professional trust matters. We want teachers to teach, support staff to support and leaders to lead.

Whether you are at the start of your career or an experienced professional, we are committed to helping you grow, develop and flourish.

The Person We Are Looking For

We are looking for colleagues who are committed to improving the life chances of young people, believe in high expectations alongside genuine care and compassion and want to contribute to a positive and ambitious culture.

We value professionals who are reflective, resilient and team-oriented, who champion inclusive practice and equitable opportunity and who are passionate about their role and committed to continuous improvement.

Most importantly, we are looking for people who want to make a real difference.

Join Our Journey

At The Dorcan Academy, we are shaping our future together. We support. We challenge. We partner.
