Our Telco Partner is seeking a UK-Qualified Lawyer (England and Wales) with experience in in-house or private practice, specializing in compliance, corporate governance, commercial contracts, and/or corporate M&A to join their supportive in-house legal team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The postholder will manage corporate governance and compliance within the UK business, providing general commercial and corporate advice as needed. The workload will vary with business priorities, offering opportunities to expand into areas like corporate M&A and competition work.

The role reports to the Director of Legal within the Commercial legal team, working alongside the UK Strategy & Regulatory team and the corporate and compliance teams at the Global Head Office.

Significant areas of practice include:

• Leading UK workstreams on prevention of corporate crime, including anti-fraud, anti-tax-evasion, and anti-bribery, with briefings to directors and senior management, and developing controls.
• Leading UK data privacy initiatives, advising on legislation, managing processing records, data privacy impact assessments, incident management, and compliance audits.
• Managing Electronic Communications Code registration requirements with Ofcom, including annual updates.
• Leading the UK Telecommunications Security Act working group, advising on implementation and working with security and industry teams.
• Managing and developing a paralegal in Corporate Governance & Compliance.
• Owning and updating UK compliance policies regularly.
• Building external contacts within relevant organizations.
• Managing UK corporate governance, including Delegated Authority documents and powers of attorney.
• Managing relationships with Group Treasury and Group Tax, including bank mandates and financial controls.

EXPERIENCE

• Qualified lawyer in England & Wales
• 10+ years PQE
• Proactive, independent work style, with experience working with diverse teams and external advisors
• Knowledge of legal & compliance matters in UK corporates, especially data protection and security
• Interest in data privacy and information security, with willingness to develop expertise
• Experience in company secretarial and corporate governance activities
• Experience or interest in commercial contracts, corporate M&A, and competition law is desirable
