Job Description: UK-Qualified Lawyer

Our Telco Partner is seeking a UK-Qualified Lawyer (England and Wales) with experience in in-house or private practice. The team is expanding, and the company seeks an experienced lawyer with expertise in compliance, corporate governance, commercial contracts, and/or corporate M&A to join their supportive in-house legal team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The postholder will manage corporate governance and compliance within the UK business, providing general commercial and corporate advice based on experience and business needs. Responsibilities may include opportunities to work in areas such as corporate M&A and competition law.

The role reports to the Director of Legal within the Commercial legal team and collaborates with the UK Strategy & Regulatory team and the corporate and compliance teams at the Global Head Office.

Significant Areas of Practice

• Leading UK workstreams on the prevention of corporate crime, including anti-fraud, anti-tax-evasion, and anti-bribery measures, and developing controls within the UK.
• Managing UK data privacy, including advising on legislation, overseeing processing activities, and managing data incidents and subject access requests.
• Overseeing Electronic Communications Code registration with Ofcom, including annual updates and Regulation 16 compliance.
• Leading the UK Telecommunications Security Act working group, advising on implementation and working with internal and external stakeholders.
• Managing and developing a paralegal focused on Corporate Governance & Compliance.
• Maintaining and updating UK compliance policies regularly.
• Building external contacts within the industry to share knowledge.
• Managing corporate governance for UK entities, including Delegated Authority documents and powers of attorney.
• Coordinating with Group Treasury and Group Tax on financial controls and bank mandates.

Experience

• Qualified lawyer in England & Wales.
• 10+ years PQE.
• Proactive and independent work style, with experience working with diverse teams and senior management.
• Strong knowledge in legal & compliance matters, especially data protection and security, with ability to create templates using resources like Practical Law.
• Interest in data privacy and information security, with willingness to develop expertise.
• Experience in company secretarial and corporate governance activities.
• Interest or experience in commercial contracts, corporate M&A, or competition law is desirable.
