Job summary

MARCH is seeking a Senior Control Systems Engineer to join our growing engineering team at our state-of-the-art facility in Reading, Berkshire. This technically focused role leads the design, development and commissioning of advanced control and automation systems across multiple industries.

You will provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, maintain high engineering standards, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects on time and within budget.

Qualifications

• Degree in control, automation or electrical engineering (or equivalent).
• MIET membership or Chartered status desirable.
• Extensive experience delivering control solutions across multiple industries.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to all stages of the project lifecycle with high-quality delivery.
• Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers.
• Build client relationships through clear technical communication and documentation.
• Own technical tasks and projects, delivering to budget, quality, safety and programme.
• Produce and review specifications, design documents and reports.
• Develop, configure and implement control software across platforms.
• Conduct testing and commissioning in live environments.
• Maintain high engineering standards throughout design and delivery.
• Lead or participate in multi-disciplinary teams across environments.
• Ensure compliance with the Integrated Management System.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and wider engineering community.

Job description

We are now seeking a Senior Control Systems Engineer to join our growing engineering team at our state of the art facility in Reading, Berkshire. This is a technically focused role, responsible for leading the design, development and commissioning of advanced control and automation systems across a wide range of industries.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and contribute to all stages of the project lifecycle, ensuring high‑quality technical delivery
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring junior engineers and sharing best practices
• Build strong client relationships through effective technical communication, presentations and documentation
• Take ownership of technical tasks and projects, delivering to budget, quality, safety and programme expectations
• Produce and review specifications, design documents and engineering reports
• Develop, configure and implement control system application software across multiple platforms
• Conduct testing and commissioning activities in live operational environments
• Maintain consistently high engineering standards throughout the design and delivery process
• Lead or work within multi‑disciplinary teams, adapting to a variety of environments
• Ensure compliance with the company’s Integrated Management System
• Contribute to continuous improvement and support the development of the wider engineering community

Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

• Degree‑qualified in control, automation or electrical engineering (or equivalent proven experience)
• Member of a relevant engineering or professional body (e.g., MIET); Chartered status desirable
• Extensive experience within the control and automation industry
• Proven track record delivering control solutions within sectors such as Food, Utilities, FMCG, Process or Materials Handling
• Strong technical leadership and project engineering experience
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skill
• Highly motivated, ambitious and capable of operating at a senior technical level
