Job summary

Pertemps Bristol Commercial is seeking a Senior Controls Software Engineer to join the Sustaining team in Clevedon. You will develop and improve control and visualization software for specialist equipment, investigate issues and support software development processes.

The role includes hybrid working between home and office, with a salary around £53,000 plus bonus. You will work with the engineering team on specifications, testing, documentation and releases, contributing to project planning and

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in a relevant technical discipline (controls or software engineering).
• At least five years' experience in controls and software in a relevant industry.
• Experience with HMI programming using VB.NET or another high-level language.
• Experience compiling software.
• Knowledge of Modbus and EdCentra XML protocols.
• Experience producing technical documentation.
• Experience managing software configuration control, versioning and releases.

About the Role

An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Controls Software Engineer to join an established engineering team in Clevedon, focusing on the development and improvement of control and visualisation software for specialist equipment.

You will help develop reliable software solutions, investigate quality issues and improve software development processes. Working alongside other engineers, you will contribute to project planning, software testing, release processes and technical documentation.

Hybrid working is available, allowing you to split your time between home and the office, subject to business requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare software specifications for control and visualisation systems.
• Develop and maintain control software using appropriate programming languages.
• Follow agreed testing procedures and risk assessments to ensure safe working practices.
• Prepare test documentation and recommend suitable testing methods.
• Plan and prioritise your workload, monitor progress and report on project activities.
• Contribute to project planning and the continuous improvement of controls engineering processes.
• Investigate software quality issues and support their resolution.
• Maintain software release and installation documentation.
• Produce and review technical content for manuals, build notes and service instructions.
• Manage software configuration control, version numbering, releases and archiving.
• Share technical knowledge and support colleagues within the engineering team.

About You

• An HND, degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant technical discipline, preferably controls or software engineering.
• At least five years' experience working in controls and software within a relevant industry.
• Experience with HMI programming using VB.NET or another high-level programming language.
• Experience compiling software.
• Knowledge of communications protocols such as Modbus and EdCentra XML.
• Experience producing technical documentation.
• Experience managing software configuration control, versioning and release processes.
• Knowledge of safety and design review methods, such as HAZOP and FMEA.
• Knowledge of industry standards such as SEMI S2 and S8 would be advantageous.
