Join a growing automation and engineering business where you’ll work on technically challenging projects within warehouse, logistics and distribution automation.
Based in Daresbury, Warrington, this hybrid Controls Engineer position will see you working across the full project lifecycle, from control system design and PLC/HMI development through to testing, commissioning and customer handover.
This role is suited to an engineer with previous experience delivering controls solutions within warehouse automation, material handling, conveyor or sortation systems.
Job Responsibilities:
- Design and develop PLC-based control systems for automated machinery and industrial systems
- Develop PLC and HMI/SCADA software, primarily using Siemens and Rockwell platforms
- Carry out system testing, fault finding and commissioning
- Support and oversee installation activities at customer sites
- Produce technical documentation including FDS, control philosophies and supporting project documentation
- Work with engineering and project teams to deliver projects on time and within budget
- Contribute to the development and standardisation of control system architecture, software and hardware
- Deliver customer training and system handovers
- Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors throughout project delivery
- Provide technical input into sales and project proposals
- Participate in a 24/7 support rota, providing remote and occasional on-site support
- Ensure completed projects are handed over with the required as-built documentation and software backups
- Support continuous improvement, health & safety compliance and internal process development
Experience Required:
- Previous controls experience within warehouse, logistics or distribution automation
- Experience working with conveyor, sortation and/or material handling systems
- Proven experience designing and delivering industrial control systems
- Strong PLC programming experience with Siemens and/or Rockwell
- Strong commissioning, troubleshooting and fault-finding skills
- Experience working directly with customers on-site
- Understanding of project delivery processes and technical documentation
- Ability to work independently and within multi-disciplinary engineering teams
- Strong communication and customer-facing skills
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to customer sites as required
