Job summary

Yolk Recruitment in Bridgwater, Somerset, seeks a Senior Controls & Automation Engineer to own electrical controls and software for bespoke machinery. You will design PLC and HMI solutions and integrate servo drives, robotics and vision systems across UK and international sites.

The role offers hybrid working (3 days in the Bridgwater office, 2 days at home) with opportunities to lead projects from concept through commissioning, FAT/SAT and customer acceptance, delivering sophisticated

Qualifications

• Strong experience programming PLC and HMI within industrial automation.
• Background designing and developing control systems for automated machinery.
• Experience with servo drives, motion control and automation technologies.
• Knowledge of industrial robotics and vision systems, ideally ABB or FANUC.
• Good understanding of electrical control systems, schematics and control panel design.
• Knowledge of machinery safety, risk assessments and safety-related control systems.
• Experience commissioning automated machinery, including FAT and SAT.
• Ability to take technical ownership of projects and work with engineers/customers.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Willingness to travel within the UK and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and program PLC and HMI systems for bespoke automated machinery.
• Take ownership of control systems from specification to commissioning and customer acceptance.
• Develop electrical control designs, schematics and technical documentation.
• Integrate servo drives, motion control, robotics and vision systems into equipment.
• Collaborate with mechanical engineers to ensure integrated operation of machinery.
• Develop control solutions for new machinery and upgrades.
• Ensure compliance with machinery safety standards and functional safety requirements.
• Troubleshoot software, electrical and control issues during development and commissioning.
• Support FAT, SAT and site commissioning and customer liaison.
• Travel to customer sites across the UK and internationally as needed.
