Job summary

Yolk Recruitment seeks a Senior Controls & Automation Engineer to own electrical controls and software for bespoke machinery projects in Bridgwater. You will design PLC and HMI systems, integrate servo drives and robotics, and work closely with mechanical engineers to ensure seamless operation across the lifecycle from concept to commissioning.

Qualifications

• Experience designing and programming PLC/HMI for bespoke automated machinery.
• Background in control systems for automated machinery or specialised equipment.
• Knowledge of servo drives, motion control and automation technologies.
• Familiarity with industrial robotics and vision systems (ABB/FANUC preferred).
• Solid understanding of electrical control systems, schematics and control panels.
• Knowledge of machinery safety and safety-related control systems.
• Experience commissioning automated machinery including FAT and SAT.
• Ability to take technical ownership of projects and collaborate with mechanical engineers and customers.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and program PLC and HMI systems for bespoke machinery.
• Own control systems from specification through commissioning and customer acceptance.
• Develop electrical control designs and technical documentation.
• Integrate servo drives, motion control, robotics and vision systems.
• Collaborate with mechanical engineers to ensure integrated operation.
• Develop control solutions for new machinery and upgrades.
• Ensure compliance with machinery safety standards and functional safety.
• Troubleshoot software and hardware issues during development and testing.
• Support FAT, SAT and machinery commissioning.
• Travel to customer sites in the UK and internationally as needed.
