Job summary

Better Staff Recruitment is seeking a Senior Buyer for a construction procurement role in London. You will lead site-based purchasing, manage a small team, and coordinate with Estimating and site management to ensure timely materials and services.

Responsibilities include sourcing and negotiating with suppliers, planning deliveries, and identifying cost savings while maintaining data on suppliers and subcontractors. A strong construction background and CIPS level 4 or equivalent are preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience in procurement of site-based materials, plants and services.
• Strong background in refurbishment-based materials and trades.
• Experience with logistical planning and just in time deliveries.
• Organised, motivated, reliable, ability to self-manage and lead a team.
• Good commercial sense and negotiation skills.
• CIPS Level 4 or equivalent qualification/experience.
• Strong IT skills with Excel and relevant management software.

Responsibilities

• Manage the Buying Department including a buyer and part-time yard assistant.
• Source and order materials, hired-in plant and site services.
• Plan deliveries and services to support site management teams.
• Identify and negotiate cost reductions with suppliers.
• Source new suppliers and maintain data for existing suppliers and subcontractors.
• Collaborate with other buyers on day-to-day order processing.
• Work with Estimating to arrange materials, services and subcontractor costs for tenders.
• Prepare reports for carbon and waste data reporting.
