Job summary

Hitachi Energy is seeking a Senior Commissioning Engineer to provide commissioning expertise across transmission, distribution, substations, and renewable energy projects throughout the UK. This predominantly remote role offers travel typically less than 15% and the opportunity to stay technically involved without permanent site-based work.

You will shape commissioning strategies, develop documentation, support project planning, and drive successful delivery across multiple projects from tender

Qualifications

• Proven commissioning experience within electrical infrastructure, substations, utilities, or renewable energy.
• Strong understanding of commissioning processes and testing methodologies.
• Experience developing, reviewing, or approving commissioning documentation and test procedures.
• Knowledge of planning, resource allocation, sequencing, and project scheduling.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work independently across multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Provide commissioning expertise across tendering, planning, delivery, and close-out.
• Develop commissioning strategies, programmes, methodologies, and testing sequences.
• Support tender reviews, estimates, resource planning, and project scheduling.
• Review and approve commissioning procedures, test plans, and technical documentation.
• Act as the commissioning SME across multiple projects.
• Support FATs, commissioning reviews, and customer meetings.
• Conduct periodic site visits to review progress, identify risks, and provide technical guidance.
• Work with Project Managers to manage commissioning risks and technical issues.
• Review commissioning documentation completed by internal teams and external partners.
• Support commissioning activities from award through energisation and handover.
