About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a diligent Insurance Commercial Underwriter to join our New Business team as a Senior Commercial Underwriter. You’ll evaluate and assess complex risks across various business classes, including Motor Trade, Farm, Estates, and Commercial Select products. You will also act as a point of referral for less experienced team members, providing training, coaching, and technical support. Additionally, you will support departmental improvements, deliver projects, and build strong relationships with our Agents to ensure effective risk management and customer service.

Our NFU Mutual agencies are vital links with our customers. As an Underwriter, you'll collaborate closely with them, resolving complex referrals and managing insurance risks effectively.

We provide comprehensive induction and ongoing training. Initially, you will work full-time in the office for the first 6 months, with subsequent flexible and remote working options.

Working hours: 35 hours per week, Monday – Friday, between 8am and 6pm.

About you

You should be an experienced Commercial Underwriter with a strong background in new business underwriting across various classes. You must be resilient, an effective communicator, and capable of establishing strong stakeholder relationships. Your skills should include:

• Property & Liability Commercial Underwriting experience in the mid-market space
• Coaching, mentoring, and training colleagues
• Leading and influencing risk decisions
• Making rational decisions in a fast-paced environment
