Defence and adjacent markets- We manage reactive and planned maintenance and upgrades on defence properties, airfields, military bases, ports, railway infrastructure and depots.

To deliver commercial management services effectively and consistently, it's essential to establish a clear structure with defined roles, responsibilities, and required competencies. Building a high-performing team involves setting clear objectives, supporting personal development, and regularly reviewing progress. A strong culture of contractual and commercial awareness must be promoted, ensuring compliance with group procedures and governance. This includes active involvement in the work-winning process, resource planning, and collaboration with pre-contract teams. Developing and executing a clear commercial strategy—covering tendering, cash flow, and margin improvement—is critical. Before tenders are submitted, contractual risks must be reviewed, and contract terms negotiated within acceptable risk parameters. Ongoing contract administration should be monitored through regular reviews, ensuring timely and professional execution. Cash flow management, WIP control, and risk mitigation are key to financial health. Are you maximizing your cash position and proactively managing risks?
Engagement with the Contract Services team to resolve disputes, and coordination with the Insurance department to pursue recoveries, are also vital. Participation in project reviews and executive meetings ensures transparency and accountability. Are you leveraging these forums to drive performance and resolve issues early?
Strategic planning, including setting annual objectives and aligning with the Operations Director on business plans, helps maintain focus. Client engagement, feedback loops, and cross-unit collaboration support a unified “One Group” approach. How are you maintaining strong client relationships and ensuring alignment across business units?
Finally, contributing to group-wide initiatives, promoting behavioural programmes, and ensuring compliance with legal and audit requirements are part of a well-rounded leadership role. Are you creating space for innovation and continuous improvement within your team?
What you’ll bring
- Qualifications:Do you have a degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field? MRICS or CICES accreditation is preferred.
- Experience:Have you worked in civil engineering, aviation, defence, or other safety-critical sectors? We’re looking for significant experience.
- Skills:Are you proficient with cost estimation software and Microsoft Office? Do you have strong analytical, communication, and negotiation skills?
