Job summary

Matchtech is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor / Senior Commercial Manager with rail or highways experience to join a rapidly growing client on flagship UK infrastructure programmes, based in Bristol.

You will drive the Contract Management Strategy, oversee NEC contracts, manage a commercial team and build trusted client relationships to deliver value and governance across high-value contracts.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in quantity surveying and commercial management within rail/highways/transport infrastructure.
• Strong understanding and practical application of NEC contracts.
• Experience in post-award contract management including mobilisation, change control, risk management and performance monitoring.
• Knowledge of compensation events, early warnings, programme management and payment mechanisms under NEC.
• Ability to develop and implement commercial governance and contract management strategies.
• Experience leading commercial/contract management teams.
• Strong analytical, reporting and stakeholder management skills with commercial challenge capability.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and continual improvement of the Contract Management Strategy and related programme.
• Support contract management best practice with standards, tools, templates, guidance and assurance processes.
• Manage and develop a team responsible for overseeing strategic contracts with leadership and coaching.
• Establish governance, accountability and escalation for high-value/high-risk contracts.
• Lead post-award activities: mobilisation, performance reviews, risk registers, change control, KPI tracking and close-out.
• Provide senior oversight of NEC contracts, including early warnings, programmes, compensation events, and payment processes.
• Collaborate with contract owners and suppliers to address underperformance and secure value for money.
• Prepare portfolio-level reporting and provide clear commercial updates to senior leaders.
