Job summary

Kenton Black is supporting a leading contractor in Blyth, Northumberland, to appoint a Commercial Lead for a landmark hyperscale data centre project. The role involves full commercial responsibility from inception through delivery, leading a on-site team and driving cost performance.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience with tier 1 contractors, strong leadership, and expertise in NEC/JCT contracts, with a focus on risk management and stakeholder collaboration.

Qualifications

• Extensive commercial management experience with international or Tier 1 main contractors.
• Strong background delivering major construction projects.
• Proven leadership of high-performing commercial teams.
• Excellent contractual knowledge including NEC/JCT forms.
• Outstanding commercial awareness, negotiation and leadership skills.
• Ability to build trusted relationships with clients, teams and supply chain.
• Degree in Quantity Surveying or related discipline; MRICS membership is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Take overall responsibility for the commercial management of a major hyperscale data centre project.
• Lead the commercial strategy from pre-construction through to final account.
• Manage all contractual and commercial matters across the project.
• Oversee procurement strategies, subcontract awards and supply chain management.
• Lead cost reporting, forecasting, budgeting and financial performance.
• Identify, manage and mitigate commercial risks and opportunities.
• Build and maintain relationships with client, consultants and subcontractors.
