Job summary

University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust in Stoke-on-Trent is seeking a motivated Senior Clinical Support Worker to join the ophthalmology team. This Band 3, part-time post (30 hours per week) supports clinic operations and patient care.

You will perform vision tests, assist with procedures, and help organise multiple ophthalmology clinics across the site. ACare-focused qualification background is required.

Qualifications

  • 12 months experience as Healthcare Assistant or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Providing basic elements of patient care and assisting with procedures
  • Chaperoning patients and organising the daily running of ophthalmology clinics
  • Performing patient vision tests and supporting all clinics (Macula, Pre-assessment, Main Ophthalmology, County Eye, Emergency Eye)
  • Taking patient observations (height, weight, BMI) and ensuring high standards of care
  • Assisting in theatre and booking appointments/referrals

Job overview

At present, University Hospitals of North Midlands is unable to offer visa sponsorship for Band 2 to Band 4 roles, as these positions do not meet the minimum salary and skill thresholds required under UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) regulations.

In relation to Band 3 Senior Clinical Support Worker roles, we are currently able to recruit successfully from the domestic labour market and have a sufficient pool of suitably qualified and appointable candidates. As a result, visa sponsorship is not available for this role at this time. This position is kept under regular review and may change in the future should labour market conditions or service requirements alter.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Senior Clinical Support Worker to join our busy ophthalmology team.

Main duties of the job

In this post you will be responsible for providing some basic elements of patient care, assisting with procedures/chaperoning and organising the daily running of the clinics.

Your main clinic tasks will include perfoming patient vision tests and in supporting all clinics including:

  • Macula Clinic
  • Pre assessment Clinic
  • Main Ophthalmology Clinic
  • County Eye Clinic
  • Emergency Eye Clini

Please note that if you are selected for an interview there will be a pre-interview English and Numeracy test for this role.

  • Supporting/chaperoning patients during procedures and assisting the team where necessary.

Person specification
Qualifications
  • Numeracy/Literacy skills to Level 1 (GCSE Grade 2-3, D-F or equivalent) IELTS or OETS (Overall score of C1) accepted for overseas applicants (Level 6 in Listening/speaking/reading & Writing)
  • Care Certificate or must complete within 12 weeks of commencing employment
  • NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Care/Equivalent qualification or willing/required to complete if successful (If applicant has 3 years or more care experience this is voluntary).
Experience
  • 12 months experience in a professional contract as a Healthcare Assistant or equivalent
