Band 7 Pre-treatment Therapeutic Radiographer at Sutton site.
The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust is renowned for high-quality patient care, education, and research. Its partnership with the Institute of Cancer Research has created Europe's largest comprehensive cancer centre.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, caring, and motivated therapy radiographer to work as a Band 7 Team Leader within the Pre-treatment team.
The role involves working across key areas of Pre-treatment services, including Mould room, Siemens Confidence CT scanner, Cannulation, and Virtual simulation (Raystation), much of which is radiographer-led. The department features 6 Elekta Linear accelerators, a Radixact unit with another Radixact being installed, Cyberknife, and an Elekta MR Linac. Digital patient pathways are managed via Mosaiq Smart Clinic software.

Main duties of the job

  1. Manage radiotherapy processes and operational aspects of a complex radiotherapy work base, including treatment units, CT scanners, or project teams.
  2. Supervise immediate radiographic team members, including students, aides, and visitors, ensuring accurate and effective practice.
  3. Collaborate with medical, physics, nursing, clerical, and support staff, primarily liaising with superintendent radiographers.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  1. Lead evidence-based decision making within your work base, including analyzing and approving images following training and protocols.
  2. Ensure accurate preparation, planning, and delivery of treatment by yourself and team members.
  3. Set high standards of technical expertise and act as a role model for junior staff.
  4. Train team members in equipment operation, adhering to safety and manufacturer guidelines.
  5. Fulfill regulatory responsibilities under IR(ME)R regulations, including managing exposures as delegated.
  6. Make informed decisions within your scope of practice, including analyzing and approving planning and treatment images.

Person specification

Education/Qualifications

  • HCPC registration as a therapeutic radiographer (BSc (Hons) in Radiotherapy or equivalent).
  • Postgraduate qualification in therapeutic radiography, leadership, or management.
  • Postgraduate training in supervising or teaching.

Experience

  • Extensive experience in a sophisticated RT environment, especially IGRT techniques.
  • Participation in quality management programs.
  • Experience in clinical education of preregistration students.
  • Involvement in research, audit, or service evaluation.
  • Experience with paperless radiotherapy processes and using Aria/Mosaiq systems.
