Job description

Senior Clinical Fellow - Plastic Surgery

This is a full-time (40 hours per week) post based at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust's Plastic Surgery Department. The department is a busy and dynamic unit that provides care for the local population in North Central London and a larger network around North London and the home counties. This is a 6-month fixed-term post.

The trust manages Plastic Surgery services at the following locations: Mount Vernon Hospital, Watford General Hospital, St Albans City Hospital, Barnet General Hospital.

Services are also provided at: Hillingdon, Luton & Dunstable, Whittington, University College, Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Harefield, Northwick Park, Chase Farm.

The service configuration involves inpatient work, day case procedures under general anaesthetic, and specialist outpatient services mainly at the Royal Free Hospital. Outpatient services and minor procedures are also delivered at various 'spoke' sites, often in partnership with consultants from other specialties.

Main duties of the job

Clinical responsibilities:

  1. Undertake Plastic Surgery clinics and provide care for patients with a wide range of conditions.
  2. Work at SpR level, undertaking appropriate surgeries, assisting in the operating theatre, participating in ward rounds, and outpatient clinics as directed by Consultants.
  3. Engage proactively in clinical governance activities, including audits and the Trust's governance systems.
  4. Support infection prevention & control and antimicrobial stewardship activities.
  5. Participate in laboratory and clinical audits.

Education & Professional Qualifications
  • Possession of MBBS or an equivalent medical qualification
  • Eligible for GMC registration
  • Membership of a relevant Royal College or equivalent
