Job overview

Applications are invited for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Respiratory Medicine at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation.

The successful applicant will join a large and dynamic team of 23 Consultants providing a comprehensive Respiratory Service to Derby, Southern Derbyshire, Staffordshire and surrounding areas.

Main duties of the job

The Royal Derby Respiratory Unit delivers high-quality sub-specialty services including lung cancer, COPD, asthma, ILD, bronchiectasis, tuberculosis, and sleep/NIV.

This is a replacement post that will support the pleural and lung cancer services. The Clinical Fellow will be responsible, under the direction of the consultants, for delivering inpatient care, day case pleural activity, out-patient clinics and medical student teaching. In addition, they will gain experience in EBUS and thoracoscopy in a centre which performs over 180 of these procedures per year.

On-call commitments includes evening and weekend cover within the respiratory and medical HDU rota.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will have the opportunity to work on quality improvement projects and audit. This is an exciting opportunity for applicants interested in pursuing a career in Respiratory to gain clinical experience in a teaching hospital.

Qualifications
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice on application
  • MRCP part 2 Diploma
  • Presentation/Publications
  • Evidence of relevant academic and research achievements relevant to Respiratory
Experience
  • Completed at least 2 years full-time (or equivalent gained either LTFT) post Foundation Training (4 years Postgraduate including foundation years) in IMT or equivalent medical specialties experience (or 18 months if MRCP diploma achieved).
  • Up to date knowledge of respiratory and acute medicine and evidence of an understanding of its application
  • ALS provider
  • Experience in pleural ultrasound and pleural procedures
  • Experience in performing bronchoscopy and EBUS
  • Experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk
Experience
  • Previous experience at Senior Clinical Fellow level
  • Respiratory knowledge
