Job summary

Qualifications

• Accredited Clinical Coder qualification or equivalent experience.
• Clinical coding foundation course completed.
• Evidence of attendance to a Clinical Coding refresher course within the last 2 years.
• Post graduate qualification or equivalent in managing a performance output-based service.
• Evidence of attendance on Clinical Coding speciality workshops within last 2 years.
• Leadership and Management qualification (training provided).
• Approved Clinical Coding Auditor or Trainer Qualification.
• Degree in an anatomy or physiology related subject.

Responsibilities

• Identify uncoded activity by reviewing daily discharge/uncoded reports.
• Analyse and translate complex clinical information from patient notes to codes.
• Code Finished Consultant Episodes across all Trust sites.
• Use coding tools and guidelines to select appropriate codes reflecting patient episodes.
• Negotiate with clinicians over coding guidance and escalate as needed.
• Maintain data quality and ensure timely, accurate coding for reporting.
• Mentor and supervise junior coders to ensure accuracy and consistency.
• Communicate complex coding rules to clinicians, information and finance teams.
