Job summary

Great Ormond Street Hospital For Children NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Senior Clinical Coder to join the Clinical Coding Department, translating patient records into coded data using ICD-10 and OPCS-4, and ensuring accuracy for statutory and financial reporting.

The role involves mentoring junior staff, supporting the Coding Manager, and working across specialties with strong attention to detail, data quality and timely submission in line with national standards.

Qualifications

• Holds Accredited Clinical Coding Qualification or has equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated medical terminology and anatomy knowledge.
• Knowledge of Patient information systems and ICD-10/OPCS-4.
• Evidence of Continuing professional Development (CPD).

Responsibilities

• Review and interpret complex clinical information from patient records.
• Accurately code inpatient and day case activity using ICD-10 and OPCS-4.
• Ensure coded information is accurate and submitted within timescales.
• Mentor trainee and junior Clinical Coders and support the Coding Manager.
• Participate in audits and contribute to improvements in data quality.
• Liaise with clinical teams to clarify documentation as needed.
