Director - In-house Banking and Financial Services team at Taylor Root

A leading Insurance Company is seeking a Senior Claims Counsel in London on a 12-month contract, with a strong possibility of permanent placement. This role offers an exciting opportunity to join a market leader and contribute significantly to the legal team.

The successful candidate will collaborate with Claims and Legal teams to advise on coverage, strategy, and litigation throughout the lifecycle of claims. The role involves working across all lines of business and multiple jurisdictions, supporting global claims teams.

Core duties and responsibilities:

1. Collaborate with claims teams across all lines of business on claims handling, coverage analysis, and strategy for contentious claims to final settlement, including subrogation and recoveries.
2. Advise claims and underwriting teams on loss mitigation strategies and work-out solutions in pre-claim scenarios within specialized lines of business.
3. Provide legal advice and drafting support to claims adjusters, including coverage investigations, policy responses, and settlement negotiations.
4. Oversee insurance litigation and manage e-discovery processes.

Qualifications:

• Solicitor qualified in England & Wales, United States, or similar jurisdiction with at least 6 PQE.
• Minimum of five years' experience in coverage advisory and dispute resolution within the insurance industry.
• Marine experience is desirable but not essential.
• Pragmatic, solutions-oriented legal counsel with strong relationship-building and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, supporting a multidisciplinary team with a solutions-based attitude.
