Job summary

HDI is seeking an experienced Property Claims professional in the UK to own a diverse portfolio from notification to settlement. You will assess coverage, interpret policy wordings and negotiate fair outcomes while supporting colleagues and working with Underwriting, Risk Management and other teams.

You will lead market meetings, manage external experts, and contribute to projects to improve team efficiency. Flexibility in working arrangements is welcome.

Job description

The role

You’ll take ownership of a diverse portfolio of Property claims, managing cases from first notification through to settlement. Working across both lead and follow claims, you’ll use your technical expertise to assess coverage, interpret policy wordings, evaluate causation and quantum, and negotiate fair outcomes.

Alongside managing your own caseload, you’ll act as a technical referral point for colleagues, sharing your knowledge through coaching, training and day-to-day support. You’ll also work closely with Underwriting, Risk Management and other teams to deliver a joined-up service for our brokers and clients.

Key accountabilities

• Manage a varied portfolio of technically complex Property claims from notification through to settlement.
• Assess the cause of loss, determine policy coverage and identify any additional information required.
• Interpret policy and underwriting documentation to make clear, well-supported claims decisions.
• Investigate, negotiate and settle claims in accordance with legal, regulatory and internal requirements.
• Establish accurate and timely reserves to support effective exposure management.
• Build strong relationships with clients, brokers, loss adjusters, solicitors, experts and third-party administrators.
• Lead market meetings and support claims involving international programmes, including international and US exposures.
• Collaborate with Underwriting, Risk Management, Finance, senior management and international network offices.
• Manage external experts effectively, monitoring the quality and cost of the services they provide.
• Act as a technical referral point, providing coaching, training and guidance to other Claims colleagues.
• Contribute to projects and initiatives that improve the team’s effectiveness and efficiency.
• Help strengthen broker and client confidence in the wider Property proposition.

Skills & experience

We’re looking for an experienced Property Claims professional who combines strong technical knowledge with sound judgement, excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach.

You’ll ideally bring:

• Experience managing complex or high-value Property claims.
• Strong knowledge of policy interpretation, coverage analysis, causation, quantum and reserving.
• An understanding of relevant legal, regulatory and compliance requirements.
• Confident negotiation skills and the ability to reach fair, commercially considered settlements.
• Experience working with brokers, clients, loss adjusters, lawyers and other specialist advisers.
• The ability to control claims costs while maintaining high standards of service and technical quality.
• Strong stakeholder-management skills and the confidence to lead market meetings.
• A willingness to share expertise, coach colleagues and act as a trusted technical referral point.
• Excellent attention to detail and a disciplined approach to claims processes and legal timescales.
• A proactive mindset, with the confidence to challenge constructively and identify better ways of working.
