Job summary

HDI in London seeks an experienced Claims Handler to manage a portfolio of First Party and Third Party Liability cases from FNOL to settlement within branch authority.

You will evaluate loss causes, determine coverage, and liaise with clients, loss adjusters, solicitors and underwriters to ensure accurate reserves and timely resolution. This is a permanent, hybrid role.

Qualifications

• Third Party Liability CAR/EAR claims handling experience
• London Company market CAR/EAR and Engineering matters
• Experience of JCT/ LEG/ DE
• Experience of market meetings in a lead or follow capacity
• Good general knowledge and understanding of insurance principles
• General awareness of current regulation, case law, and market issues
• Good working knowledge of claims portal
• Excellent communication and report writing skills
• High accuracy and attention to detail
• Ability to work as part of a team, and be self-motivated

Responsibilities

• Handle First Party and Third Party Liability claims originating from CAR/EAR policies from FNOL to settlement and recovery
• Undertake an initial evaluation of cause of loss to determine whether a claim is covered and what further information may be required
• Decide the Company’s response to claims, based on correct interpretation of policy and underwriting documentation; investigating, negotiating and settling claims within statutory and company guidelines.
• Assist in the process for setting accurate, realistic and timely claim reserves to enable management to assess the company exposure
• Liaise with clients, loss adjusters, solicitors, experts, brokers, MGA’s and TPAs as appropriate for claims service and investigation.
• Liaise with underwriters & risk managers, finance, Management, Head Office and with network for informational, procedural or authority reasons.
• Maintain accurate records for auditing and regulatory purposes, preparing reports as necessary
• Ensure accurate entry of claims data into Company systems to enable precise reporting on the nature and financial impact of the claims portfolio and to assist in the preparation of MI
• Proactively participate in projects or other initiatives designed to improve the effectiveness or efficiency of the department
• Undertake any other tasks as requested by Line Manager and Claims Director to achieve team objectives

The role

To desktop adjust own portfolio of cases notified, from first advice through to settlement within designated Branch authority, in accordance with the claims handling manual. The cases are varied and may include both lead and follow claims to a high technical level.

Key accountabilities

• Handle First Party and Third Party Liability claims originating from CAR/EAR policies from FNOL to settlement and recovery
• To undertake an initial evaluation of cause of loss to determine whether a claim is covered and what further information may be required
• To decide the Company’s response to claims, based on correct interpretation of policy and underwriting documentation; investigating, negotiating and settling claims within statutory and company guidelines. This includes coverage analysis and policy determination.
• To assist in the process for setting accurate, realistic and timely claim reserves to enable management to assess the company exposure
• To liaise variously with clients, loss adjusters, solicitors, experts, brokers, MGA’s and TPA’s as appropriate for claims service and investigation.
• To liaise variously with underwriters & risk managers, finance, Management, Head Office and with network (Servicing and/or Producing offices) as and when relevant for informational, procedural or authority reasons.
• To maintain accurate records for auditing and regulatory purposes, preparing reports as necessary
