Job summary

Hernshead Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Lead Civil Project Engineer to supervise on-site delivery of complex Data Centre, Renewable and network infrastructure projects in the energy sector. The role demands travel across the UK, coordinating with design and construction teams and maintaining safety and quality of installations.

The candidate will have substantial 11kV–400kV substation experience, strong technical leadership, and be ready to act as deputy Engineering Manager when required.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering significant infrastructure projects in the energy market.
• Experience working in live substations in the UK (11kV to 400kV).
• Ability to interpret and apply engineering standards across a broad project portfolio.
• Experience supporting tendering, estimation, and work-winning activities.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with data interpretation.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage Civil/Structural/Architectural site activities across multiple projects, from design through handover, within an open bus-bar substation environment.
• Oversee direct resource and subcontractor performance, ensuring safety and compliance with standards.
• Provide primary technical support across CSA construction activities and liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
• Define construction strategy for projects and ensure alignment with approved designs and policies.
• Conduct routine inspection, audits, and approval of Civil & Structural works.
• Survey onsite for setting out and as-built data; manage project documentation uploads.
• Coordinate with management, design, and construction teams to deliver integrated execution.
