Job summary

Shanly Homes is seeking an experienced Civil Engineering Manager to join our Technical team as the principal in-house civil engineering specialist. You will influence land acquisitions, assess technical risks and ensure practical, cost-effective engineering solutions across developments from land to completion.

The role requires a residential civil engineering background with expertise in drainage, highways, utilities, earthworks and ground conditions, paired with a commercially minded approach

Qualifications

• Degree, HNC or HND in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Proven experience in civil engineering within a residential housebuilding or development environment.
• Strong understanding of residential infrastructure design, highways, drainage, utilities and ground engineering.
• Experience managing engineering consultants and external design teams.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to identify practical and commercially viable solutions.
• Highly organised with ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist civil engineering advice across the development lifecycle.
• Support land bids through technical risk assessments, budgets and engineering input.
• Develop planning strategies with Land and Planning teams, influence site layouts, drainage and infrastructure negotiations.
• Oversee highway designs, drainage, levels strategies, earthworks, utility layouts and external works designs.
• Manage external consultants, scopes, fees and project timescales.
• Identify opportunities for value engineering to reduce costs while maintaining quality.
