Carrington West is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to lead drainage and SuDS design for a mix of residential and energy infrastructure projects. You will work with in‑house planners and landscape architects from feasibility through to construction, coordinating with clients and authorities.

You will mentor junior engineers, drive planning approvals, and contribute to bids while shaping the growth of the civils team in a multidisciplinary consultancy environment.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Chartered (ICE/CIWEM) or close to achieving chartership.
• Extensive drainage, SuDS, flood risk and development infrastructure experience in a consultancy.
• Proven track record taking schemes through planning and technical approvals.
• Confident in managing clients, programmes and junior team members.
• Proficient in drainage design software (MicroDrainage, Causeway Flow, Civil 3D).

Senior Civil Engineer

Are you an experienced Civil Engineer ready to take the lead on projects, shape the direction of a growing team and have a genuine influence on the developments you work on? We're recruiting a Senior Civil Engineer for a growing multidisciplinary consultancy that offers exactly that.

This consultancy brings together town planning, landscape architecture and civil engineering under one roof. Its engineers work alongside in-house planners and landscape architects from the earliest stages of a scheme. The team of chartered engineers and scientists delivers flood risk and drainage expertise across a varied portfolio, including residential developments and infrastructure‑scale battery storage projects, from concept and planning through to detailed design, construction and sign‑off.

Rather than being one senior voice among many in a large engineering machine, you'll lead projects and client relationships directly. Most of the consultancy's work comes from repeat clients and referrals, so you'll be trusted to maintain and grow long‑standing relationships with developers, project managers, architects and fellow consultants, and to see the impact of your decisions across the full project lifecycle.

Your work will include:

• Leading drainage and SuDS strategies and detailed design for residential and energy infrastructure developments
• Preparing and reviewing Flood Risk Assessments and development infrastructure proposals
• Managing sewer connections, adoptions, build‑overs and diversions through to agreement
• Securing environmental permits and land drainage consents
• Steering projects through planning and technical approvals, liaising with Local Planning Authorities, Lead Local Flood Authorities, water companies and the Environment Agency
• Acting as a key point of contact for clients, managing programmes, fees and deliverables
• Checking and reviewing the work of junior engineers, and mentoring them as they develop
• Contributing to bids, fee proposals and the continued growth of the civils team

What we're looking for:

• A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
• Chartered (ICE / CIWEM) or close to achieving chartership
• Significant experience in drainage, SuDS, flood risk and development infrastructure within a consultancy setting
• A strong track record of taking schemes through planning and technical approvals
• Confidence managing clients, programmes and junior team members
• Proficiency with drainage design software (e.g. MicroDrainage / Causeway Flow, Civil 3D)
