Job summary

MWH Treatment is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer based in Hattersley with hybrid working options. You will lead engineering design on water and sewage projects for United Utilities, coordinating designs across disciplines and ensuring safety and quality.

Travel between client offices in Warrington and project sites will be required. You will report to the Civil Regional Discipline Lead and drive cost-effective designs, process improvements, and staff development while maintaining comprehensive

Qualifications

• Understand the principles of water and sewage treatment.
• Experience mentoring staff in designing discipline aspects of water/sewage treatment plants.
• Membership of a professional institution chartered or nearing chartership.

Responsibilities

• Produce cost-effective design layouts for water/sewage projects.
• Coordinate designs with all disciplines to ensure integrated contracts.
• Provide design documents and drawings in line with health, safety, specifications and standards.
• Maintain files and records throughout contract durations.
• Assist in developing and updating procedures to improve department efficiency.

Job description

We are looking to strengthen our engineering team with a Senior Civil Engineer based in Hattersley with Hybrid working available. You will be working on projects for our client United Utilities and will be expected to travel between client offices in Warrington and the site you will be assigned.

You will report directly to the Civil Regional Discipline Lead and your role will be to provide superior quality Engineering Design services to allow the company to minimise risks and maximise profits on turnkey and engineering services contracts. You will co-ordinate the design and produce design documents and drawings taking due account of health and safety requirements, specifications and standards pertaining to the contract.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Produce design layouts which are cost effective, meet the requirements of the specification and which can be constructed and commissioned effectively. The term ‘cost’ is to embrace all costs associated with the design and the subsequent construction of the design. To be cost effective the whole out turn cost of the design solution must be considered including design time costs, material costs, erection costs and any impact that the design solution might have on other disciplines.
• Ensure that standard practices are utilised where ever possible.
• Maintain competitiveness
• Provide estimates and feedback for Proposals department
• Work to procedures and processes to ensure the continuing development of the department
• Assist in developing procedures and processes
• Monitor and review the procedures and processes
• Write, update and monitor efficient procedures to aid the smooth running of the department.
• Ensure co-ordination of designs with all other disciplines internal and external to MWHT in order to ensure that the design processes carried out on the contract are co-ordinated for the benefit of the contract as a whole.

Essential:

• Understand the principles of water and sewage treatment.
• Have experience of managing/mentoring members of staff in designing relevant discipline aspects of water and sewage treatment plants.
• Membership of a professional institution chartered or nearing chartership

Preferable:

• - Civil Engineering degree
• Minimum:- Civil Engineering HND
• Ability to rationalise designs and produce economic plant layouts
• Good general knowledge of all aspects of water treatment, e.g. mechanical engineering, process engineering, electrical engineering and project management
• A flexible mind, with the ability to assimilate large amounts of different data at one time
• Ability to present technical proposals clearly, confidently and convincingly
• Computer literacy
• Driving license
