Job summary

Starkey Recruitment Group is assisting a Manchester-based client in recruiting a Senior Civil Design Engineer for water sector projects. The role involves delivering high-quality civil designs from concept to detail, mentoring junior staff, and supporting project delivery from Manchester.

The successful candidate will lead design activities for clean water and wastewater schemes, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards and working across infrastructure and non-infrastructure

Qualifications

• Min 10 years' relevant design experience in the regulated water industry.
• Strong experience with hydraulic calculations and preparing hydraulic profiles.
• Degree, HND, or equivalent experience (including progression from Technician level).
• Strong IT skills and experience with industry-standard design tools.
• Registered with a relevant professional body and working towards Chartership.

Responsibilities

• Produce civil design deliverables that meet safety, quality, and regulatory requirements
• Identify efficient and practical design solutions through scope review and site visits, and communicate these to clients and project teams
• Prepare design risk assessments, reports, and technical specifications
• Ensure designs comply with relevant technical, professional, and water company standards
• Direct, support, and develop CAD technicians, junior designers, and graduates
• Manage and record design changes in line with formal processes and procedures
• Deliver work in accordance with established quality management systems
• Estimate design hours and support project planning activities
• Attend and present designs at HAZOP, ALM, KM, and other technical review meetings

Senior Civil Design Engineer - Water

Location: Manchester

Salary: £60,000 - £65,000 per annum

Also looking for Civils Engineers 45-60k and Principal Civils Engineers 65-80k

Type: Permanent

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Civil Design Engineer to deliver high-quality civil engineering designs across regulated water industry projects. Based in Manchester, you will play a key role in developing efficient design solutions, supporting project delivery, and mentoring junior engineers and CAD technicians.

This role offers the opportunity to work across clean water and wastewater schemes, covering both infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects from outline through to detailed design.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce civil design deliverables that meet safety, quality, and regulatory requirements
• Identify efficient and practical design solutions through scope review and site visits, and communicate these to clients and project teams
• Prepare design risk assessments, reports, and technical specifications

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

• Chartered Engineer status
• Experience delivering both clean water and wastewater projects
• Experience across infrastructure and non-infrastructure designs
• Proven delivery of outline and detailed design stages
• Good awareness of construction methods, materials, and buildability
• Strong knowledge of engineering drawing practices
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
