Job summary

ESL UK is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer based near Manchester to lead design packages for water and wastewater projects, delivering safe, compliant solutions and mentoring junior engineers.

You will work with project teams and clients, produce design deliverables, supervise CAD technicians, and contribute to HAZOP, ALM, and KM reviews, with hybrid or remote working arrangements and strong opportunities for professional development.

Qualifications

  • Around 10 years’ design experience within the regulated water industry.
  • Degree, HND or significant practical experience from technician level progression.
  • Experience carrying out hydraulic calculations and preparing hydraulic profiles.
  • Strong understanding of clean water and wastewater systems.
  • Experience delivering infrastructure and non-infrastructure designs.
  • Experience working on outline and detailed design stages.
  • Knowledge of construction methods, materials and engineering drawing practices.
  • Registered with a professional engineering institution and working towards chartership.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

  • Ensuring project design changes are properly implemented and recorded.
  • Working in accordance with established design processes and procedures.
  • Estimating design hours and supporting project planning.
  • Attending and presenting designs at technical meetings such as HAZOP, ALM and KM reviews.

This role is ideal for a civil engineer withstrong designexperience who enjoys developing practical engineering solutions, leading elements of project design and supporting the development of junior engineers.

You will play a key role in producing high-quality engineering designs, working closely with project teams and clients to deliver safe,efficientand compliant solutions across a range of water and wastewater projects.

The Role

As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will contribute to the delivery of engineering design packages across multidisciplinary projects within the regulated water industry.

Your responsibilities will include:

About You

We are looking for an experienced civil engineer with a strong background in water industry design and a desire to continue developing their technicalexpertise.

Essential
  • Around 10 years’ design experience within the regulated water industry
  • Degree, HND or significant practical experience from technician level progression
  • Experience carrying out hydraulic calculations and preparing hydraulic profiles
  • Strong understanding of clean water and wastewater systems
  • Experience delivering infrastructure and non-infrastructure designs
  • Experience working on outline and detailed design stages
  • Knowledge of construction methods,materialsand engineering drawing practices
  • Strong IT and digital design capability
  • Registered with a professional engineering institution and working towards chartership
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
Desirable
  • Chartered Engineer status
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and supporting their development

Our team is ideally basedfromour Manchester office, and we encourage regular collaboration in person where possible. However, we recognise that flexibility is important and are open to hybrid or remote working arrangements for the right candidate.
