The Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Senior Engineer to join our Consulting Highways team. This is a hybrid position with shared office space in Perth, Edinburgh, and Glasgow. We welcome applications from Senior Engineers across Scotland.

The Amey Consulting Scotland Team is involved in designing some of the largest civil engineering and infrastructure projects across Scotland, with cumulative values exceeding £1bn.

Amey manages both the Southwest and Northeast Trunk Road Network Management contracts, awarded in 2020 and 2022 respectively. These are 8-year contracts, extendable up to 12 years. We also have a diverse portfolio of major roads, bridges, and transportation projects with Transport Scotland, Local Authorities, and contractors nationwide.

These long-term contracts offer excellent opportunities for technical, engineering, and professional development at all career stages, involved in challenging projects related to Scotland’s arterial road network.

The role

Our Senior Civil Engineers are key members of the Design team, working alongside Transport Scotland. You will support your Design Team Leader on various road schemes, lead projects, and mentor junior designers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading a team to produce technically sound engineering solutions that meet all standards and client requirements.
  • Preparing and checking designs, calculations, drawings, and documentation to ensure quality, cost, and schedule compliance.
  • Overseeing junior staff actions and taking responsibility for their work.
  • Managing project budgets and costs for the projects within your portfolio.
  • Liaising with clients and suppliers, attending meetings, and responding to queries.
  • Contributing to bid preparations and work-winning initiatives.
  • Promoting health and safety practices within the team.
What you will bring to us:
  • Experience and expertise in Highways/Civil engineering, gained in an engineer role or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of design processes and procedures relevant to civil engineering.
  • Ability to produce or oversee high-quality highway engineering solutions complying with standards.
  • Experience with health, safety, and welfare project tasks, including CDM regulations.
  • Progression towards or achieved Incorporated or Chartered status or equivalent.
  • Commitment to professional development leading to accreditation.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant subject or equivalent learning.
  • EngTech status is desirable.
