Job summary

Turner Lovell Limited is seeking a Senior Civil Design Engineer to lead the end-to-end civil design of electricity substations across the UK, from concept through handover. You will attend site visits, client meetings, and design reviews, coordinating with internal teams and external stakeholders to meet technical, safety, and quality requirements within time and budget constraints.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• 3+ years of industry experience in power transmission, distribution, substations or related infrastructure.
• Familiar with project lifecycles from feasibility through handover.
• Proficient in AutoCAD; knowledge of Civil 3D, Revit or Navisworks is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead the end-to-end civil design of electricity substations (up to 400kV) across the UK.
• Attend site visits, client meetings, and design reviews to monitor progress and resolve issues.
• Coordinate with internal design teams and external stakeholders to meet technical, safety and quality requirements within time and budget constraints.
• Manage design risks and develop practical, buildable engineering solutions throughout project development and delivery.
• Oversee design reviews and ensure integration with electrical and structural disciplines.
• Guide and support junior members within the team.

As a Senior Civil Design Engineer you will:

• Lead the end-to-end civil design of electricity substations (up to 400kV) across the UK.
• Attend site visits, client meetings, and design reviews to monitor progress, resolve technical issues, and maintain alignment with project scope.
• Coordinate closely with internal design teams and external stakeholders to ensure projects meet technical, safety, and quality requirements within time and budget constraints.
• Manage design risks and develop practical, buildable engineering solutions throughout project development and delivery.
• Oversee design reviews and ensure integration with adjacent disciplines such as electrical and structural.
• Guide and support junior members within the team.

The ideal profile is someone who has:

• Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• At least 3 years of industry experience, ideally within power transmission, distribution, substations, or related infrastructure in the energy and renewables sectors.
• Strong understanding of project lifecycles from feasibility through handover.
• Familiar with AutoCAD and MS Office; experience in Civil 3D, Revit, or Navisworks is advantageous.
