Job summary

Turner Lovell Limited is seeking a Senior Civil Design Engineer to lead the end-to-end civil design of electricity substations across the UK. You will manage drawings, calculations, and specifications, coordinating with electrical and structural teams while guiding junior engineers.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years in power/energy infrastructure, a Civil Engineering degree, and familiarity with AutoCAD; Civil 3D, Revit, or Navisworks is a plus.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• 3+ years of industry experience in power transmission/substations or related infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of project lifecycles from feasibility through handover.
• Familiar with AutoCAD; Civil 3D/Revit/Navisworks advantageous.

Responsibilities

Turner Lovell is currently recruiting for a Senior Civil Design Engineer to join a rapidly expanding engineering design consultant and grid connection contractor. Our client is renowned for delivering exceptional solutions within the power, energy, and infrastructure sectors.
As a Senior Civil Design Engineer you will:

• Lead the end-to-end civil design of electricity substations (up to 400kV) across the UK.
• Attend site visits, client meetings, and design reviews to monitor progress, resolve technical issues, and maintain alignment with project scope.
• Coordinate closely with internal design teams and external stakeholders to ensure projects meet technical, safety, and quality requirements within time and budget constraints.
• Manage design risks and develop practical, buildable engineering solutions throughout project development and delivery.
• Oversee design reviews and ensure integration with adjacent disciplines such as electrical and structural.
• Guide and support junior members within the team.

The ideal profile is someone who has:

• Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• At least 3 years of industry experience, ideally within power transmission, distribution, substations, or related infrastructure in the energy and renewables sectors.
• Strong understanding of project lifecycles from feasibility through handover.
• Familiar with AutoCAD and MS Office; experience in Civil 3D, Revit, or Navisworks is advantageous.
