Job summary

Black & Veatch is hiring a Senior CDM Consultant/Principal Designer to support UK & Ireland projects from London or Glasgow offices, with travel to sites three times a month. The role combines CDM leadership with design coordination, ensuring compliance and safe delivery across projects.

You will work closely with clients and internal teams, reporting to the Engineering and CDM Compliance Lead EMEA, and contribute to health and safety programs, including CDM 2015 requirements.

Qualifications

• CDM 2015 knowledge and UK/Ireland safety legislation.
• Experience delivering Principal Designer and CDM Advisor roles on large energy or industrial projects.
• NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification required.

Responsibilities

• Ensure CDM Principal Designers and Designers roles are fulfilled per CDM 2015.
• Fulfill PSDP duties and provide CDM-Advisor support as needed.
• Coordinate with Clients and Designers to manage planning, design, and safety.
• Plan and monitor health and safety in the pre-construction phase.
• Assist client with pre-construction information for design and construction teams.

We are now hiring a Senior CDM Consultant/Principal Designer to support projects in the UK and Republic of Ireland.

The role is based in our London (preferred) or Glasgow city centre office, with travel to sites around the UK around 3 times per month. When not on site, you'll work 3 days per week in the office and 2 days from home.

Reporting into our Engineering and CDM Compliance Lead EMEA, you’ll work closely with our clients and internal teams to deliver projects in a safe and compliant manner. Black and Veatch set high standards for Health and Safety and are looking for individuals who can undertake the CDM Advisor/Principal Designer role with a professional, constructive, and collaborative approach.

This position requires in depth knowledge of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and specifically Principal Designers roles and responsibilities, as well as familiarization with the Designers and Principal Contractors roles and responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure CDM Principal Designers and Designers roles and responsibilities are fulfilled in accordance with CDM 2015 Regulations requirements.
• Support Black and Veatch in fulfilling the duties of the Principal Designer as defined under CDM 2015 including where necessary carrying out the role of CDM-Advisor to support the client.
• Support Black and Veatch in fulfilling PSDP role on the projects in Ireland when required
• Liaise with CDM Principal Designers, Clients and Designers to share any information relevant to planning, management, monitoring and coordination of the design, construction and commissioning phases of the project.
• Plan, manage, monitor and coordinate health and safety in the pre-construction phase. In doing so they must take account of relevant information (such as an existing health and safety file) that might affect design work carried out both before and after the construction phase has started
• Help and advise the client in bringing together pre-construction information, and provide the information designers and contractors need to carry out their duties

Minimum Qualifications

• Several years’ experience in the construction industry with experience of CDM/Health and Safety issues in construction
• Excellent working knowledge and understanding of CDM 2015 and appropriate safety legislation in UK and Republic of Ireland.
• Demonstrable previous experience in successfully delivering the Principal Designer and CDM Advisor roles on energy or industrial large sale of projects
• NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent and NEBOSH Construction Certificate.
• Incorporated member of the Association for Project Safety (IMaPs).
• Full and clean driver’s license.
