Job summary

Markel International is seeking a Senior Catastrophe Analyst to influence underwriting decisions through catastrophe modelling and exposure analytics. You will partner with underwriters and senior stakeholders to drive profitable portfolio performance across international and London market exposures.

You’ll deliver data-driven insights, perform pre-underwriting analytics, and support view of risk development with ad-hoc analyses and reporting for Lloyds, PRA, and internal committees.

Qualifications

• Catastrophe modelling or aggregation management experience in the London market.
• Strong understanding of industry-standard models such as Verisk.
• Excellent SQL and/or Python skills.
• Experience with catastrophe management standards and portfolio-level aggregation.
• Proven ability to build relationships with internal and external contacts.
• Ability to balance multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain relationships with divisional underwriters.
• Provide ad hoc analytics for underwriting portfolio analysis and reporting for senior executives.
• Use third party catastrophe models and in-house tools for pre-underwriting analysis.
• Present results and ideas to senior stakeholders and underwriting teams.
• Collaborate with colleagues in other Markel offices and the portfolio analytics team.
• Liaise closely with outsourcing partners and model vendors.
• Assist in team projects and initiatives, such as view of risk development.
• Produce reporting for internal and external parties, including Lloyds and the PRA.
