Job summary

Sheffield City Council invites applications for a part-time Senior Casework Officer within the Homelessness & Supported Housing service. You will support Private Rented Sector case officers and help grow the provision of private rented tenancies to alleviate homelessness in Sheffield.

You will also join the Case Support & Reviewing team, focusing on improving the quality, consistency and timeliness of statutory decisions and reviews, ensuring decisions are legally compliant and customer-focused.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of housing and homelessness legislation, particularly Parts 6 and 7 of the Housing Act.
• Experience of managing complex casework and making legally robust decisions.
• The ability to interpret legislation, policy and guidance and apply this in practice.
• Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex decisions clearly to customers.
• Experience of supporting colleagues and contributing to service improvement.

Responsibilities

• Carry out statutory reviews of decisions under the Allocations Policy and homelessness legislation (Parts 6 and 7).
• Make independent decisions on complex cases and ensure duties are correctly identified and discharged.
• Ensure timely decision-making to reduce the need for prolonged temporary accommodation and associated costs.
• Provide specialist advice and guidance to Casework Officers and wider service staff.
• Contribute to complaint investigations and learning.
• Develop and improve procedures, contributing to policy reviews and service development.
• Work collaboratively with internal teams, partners and stakeholders to improve outcomes for customers.
