AXA XL is the Property & Casualty risk division of AXA, created from the acquisition of XL Catlin in 2018. We partner with mid-sized to multinational clients to take their business further, with more than 30 lines of business offering solutions for existing and emerging risks. With 9,000+ colleagues based in approximately 30 countries, we serve clients in more than 200 countries.

The key purpose of the role is to support the Head of Capital Modelling – Division in ensuring that the risk profile of the AXA XL Division is adequately modelled and communicated. This includes supporting engagement with AXA Group and the ACPR on capital issues, such as the annual SCR assessment process.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  • Support the development and maintenance of an internal capital model for the Division, reflecting AXA Group standards. This includes supporting, reviewing, and challenging parameterisation processes, validating model outputs, and maintaining and optimizing model code and documentation.
  • Coordinate and run appropriate committee and governance processes for the internal model.
  • Produce and present to senior management the XLB Standard formula (BSCR) and other analyses to support business strategy and planning.
  • Be a subject matter expert on outwards reinsurance implementation in the capital model, including impact analysis of ceded structures on AXA XL’s capital position, and maintain analyses of the reinsurance programme.
  • Be a subject matter expert on the Reinsurance Credit risk module, liaising with teams across AXA XL and AXA Group to set, review, and challenge parameters and outputs.
  • Communicate methodology and output to parts of AXA XL, including non-technical audiences.
  • Develop and optimize model outputs for key stakeholders, ensuring they meet business needs and are used appropriately.
  • Respond to queries or investigations regarding the capital or risk position of the Division.
  • Provide capital modelling output to support actuarial analyses and risk opinions.
  • Support other entities within AXA XL using the model outputs.
  • Manage and develop three junior staff members.

You will report to the Head of Capital Modelling - Division.

We’re looking for someone with these skills and abilities:

  • Proven experience in capital modelling or similar simulation-based roles.
  • Curious, inquisitive, innovative, and open to new ideas.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Highly numerate and analytical, with a strong academic background.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • SQL and R coding skills are beneficial.
  • A self-starter with strong organizational skills.
