Job summary

Mural is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and evolve the Canvas platform, ensuring fast, reliable, and intuitive experiences for the company editor. You’ll tackle real-time collaboration, document editing, AI-enabled capabilities, and performance improvements across the system.

You’ll collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering to turn ambiguous problems into clear technical solutions, mentoring teammates and raising engineering standards across projects.

Qualifications

• 6+ years building and shipping large-scale production software as part of an agile engineering team.
• Experience designing clean API contracts and service boundaries with scalable data models.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver new Canvas platform capabilities and improvements from problem definition through implementation, release, measurement, and iteration
• Design and build maintainable Canvas platform systems with quality, performance, reliability, and developer experience in mind
• Contribute to developer-friendly APIs, service boundaries, and platform contracts for quick, safe internal building
• Use AI-assisted tools and agentic workflows to prototype, implement, test, document, and measure work effectively
• Strengthen the team through technical design reviews, demos, code reviews, mentoring, and engineering-practice improvements
• Build and evolve canvas systems with rich document/object models, spatial indexing, layout behavior, asset management, and selection mechanics
• Work on large-scale concurrent and real-time collaboration systems ensuring synchronization across users
• Help design, build, and integrate AI-enabled product capabilities intersecting with the canvas/document model
• Improve performance through profiling, bottleneck analysis, architectural simplification, and optimization
